I Provide Counseling in Houston, Texas

portrait of Rune MoelbakHello! I am Rune Moelbak.
I am a psychotherapist who believes counseling should be a journey of self-discovery and not just a treatment of disorders...

I started Better Therapy in order to provide the kind of counseling to others I myself would want:

Comfort: I would want a psychotherapist who considers my struggles as human and commonplace and not as signs of abnormality...
Trust: Someone whose experience and expertise I can trust, so I know I'm in good hands...
Convenience: Someone who will see me after my work hours, so I don't have to take time off work...
Effectiveness: Someone who will help me get to the root of my problems, so I can achieve real change, not just temporary gains...

Better Therapy is my commitment to these values.
Let me help you live a more fulfilling life!

Background

I am a European Psychotherapist:
I was born in Denmark, a small Scandinavian country in Northern Europe. I was introverted and shy as a child and as an adolescent I looked at the extroverted world around me and thought something must be wrong with me. I also discovered, however, that my introversion made me better able to read people and sense what might be going on with them just beneath the surface. People gravitated toward my sensitivity, listening abilities, and thoughtful nature, and found it easy to open up to me.

I was always a very curious individual who sought to create more space to be myself in a society that prescribes social conformity and preaches action rather than reflection.

At first I sought to find myself through travelling around the world, and later through the brilliant books of philosophers. But it was only when I entered into training as a psychologist and began to experience the inner work of therapy first hand, that I knew I had found my calling.

Today I live and breathe psychotherapy. When I am not working with clients, I am reading about counseling, or writing about psychotherapy.

My View of Counseling:
I believe counseling is a way to slow down and begin to get in touch with what is moving within you. I call it your personal truth. It is a place where you can speak thoughts which you may not have dared to admit to, and feel feelings which may long have been shunned. Psychotherapy, in other words, is a process of becoming more authentically yourself and feeling more whole and complete as a result of that...

I am an Experienced Psychotherapist:
I have many years of experience helping people discover their own personal truths and getting unstuck from their problems... Currently I am a clinical supervisor and staff psychologist at Counseling and Psychological Services at The University of Houston, and I regularly teach courses in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. Program. In 2007, the American Psychological Association included me on their annual list of "Leaders in the Field" for my "achievements and contributions to psychology".

I wish you good luck on your therapeutic journey! If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact me
